How to build Good Habits and destroy Bad ones
Hey readers, warm welcome to my little post.
Today we’ll discuss how you can build good habits and make them unconscious, like driving a vehicle, so they bring maximum impact to your life.
Most of the decisions we take are unconscious. Nietzsche even called it “the mighty commander.” If you train that commander, you can go much further in life.
Start by making a list of your old habits that you’re doing unconsciously. Mark them as good, bad, or neutral based on your desired outcomes. The key is not to feel bad about yourself, but to become aware of your actions. From there, you can stack them up to build the habits you truly want.
For example, if you brush your teeth after waking up, stack it with two push-ups. The goal isn’t to build huge habits in the beginning, start as small as you can. Make it easy and attractive. That’s what James Clear calls the 2-Minute Rule: just do the thing for two minutes.
Make a checklist so you can see your progress. This way you feel proud of yourself. You can use pen and paper, or whatever works best. I personally use Google Sheets to keep track of the habits I want to build.
Don’t wait for motivation, the feeling you get after doing a small task is priceless.
Now let’s talk about the bad habits.
If you want to spend less time on social media, delete the app after using it. Make it as unattractive as possible. Over time, these small shifts in your behavior will become automatic- just like the bad habits that are currently draining your life.
The point here is repetition, if you do an action over and over again, it eventually becomes a habit, and then that habit turns automatic, slipping into the unconscious part of your brain.
Best luck for your journey, sending love from Pakistan
